Need to Surrender your Lab?

We understand the difficulty of making the decision to rehome your beloved pet. But sometimes unexpected circumstances arise, whether it be financial difficulties, declining health or life changes. If re-homing your Lab is what is best for all involved, please submit an Application for Surrender.

Lab Rescue of Greater Richmond takes the utmost care of every dog in our care. We make every effort to find the perfect match for each of our rescues. Rest assured that your pet will find a loving home with a fantastic family.

1.

The first step is to submit an  application to surrender. The application is found at the  end of this page.

2.

Once your application is received, our owner surrender volunteer will contact you to discuss  your situation in detail.

3.

We do require a temperament test to be conducted by one of our volunteers. During the evaluation,  your dog will be tested for friendliness with other dogs and people.

4.

Unfortunately we are not able to rehome dogs that are aggressive towards people and /or other dogs.

5.

If we are able to help rehome your Lab, we will  begin the process of interviewing potential matches while the dog is in your care. If a foster home is needed, we will move your dog into one of our foster homes as soon as one becomes available. Because we do not have a facility and use fosters only to house our dogs, it may take a few weeks to remove your dog.

6.

There is no fee to surrender your dog to LRGR. Having your dog up to date on vaccines prior to surrendering is helpful if at all possible.
