Available Dogs

These are a few of the dogs currently available through Lab Rescue of Greater Richmond. Please check our Petfinder site as well. New dogs are often posted there first.

If you are interested in adopting a Lab from us, please submit a completed application. Please allow up to 10 days to hear from us if you mail your application to us. If you submit your application online, or by e-mail, you can expect to hear from us within one week. Please be patient as we are all volunteers. Once we receive your completed application, one of our volunteer adoption coordinators will contact you for an interview and explain our process. If you are approved, the coordinator will work with you to match you with your new family member. Please keep in mind that we make every attempt to find the right home for each individual dog, taking into account their history, behaviors, etc.

Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. The adoption process requires an approved application, a contract and a non-refundable adoption fee of $250.00 for dogs up to 7 years of age and $200.00 for dogs 8 years old and over. Adoptions are contingent on the successful completion of a home visit either before or following the adoption. If you have questions about our process, please e-mail us or give us a call. Thanks for your interest in adopting a Lab!

Cider (#10-015)

Coming to Lab Rescue at 6 years of age, this young fellow is a happy one. His tail will wag right off his hindquarters. Cider knows sit, stay, come, drop, and shake. He is neutered and up to date on his shots. Cider is an AKC bred labrador. He has lived with small children, is fine around other dogs, and a little rough around his feline friends. This lab has passed the canine good citizen test, though he could use a refresher. Cider has good housemanners, pulls a bit on lead, and enjoys any activity you would like to share with him. To be considered for this wonderful boy, please complete an application.

Zoso and Fiona (#10-012 & #10-013)

This brother and sister pair are 2 years old. Together they love to spend time outside in the yard. Both Zoso and Fiona know sit, stay and come, and enjoy retrieving. They settle well in the home, and love to lay by your feet and give affection. Fiona knows how to "play dead" on command! Neither lab is a big barker, enjoy walks, and can be independent of one another, therefore they do not HAVE to stay together, but another dog sibling would be best. To be considered for both, or either gorgeous lab, please complete an application. (Move your mouse over the picture to see more.)

Cody (#09-031)

This boy is 4 years old, and sweet as a candycane. Cody gets along well with other dogs, but we don't know about cats. He knows commands of come, off and no. Cody is a wonderful car rider, hanging quietly in the back. Though he could pull Santa's sleigh on lead, some time training him not to pull will be easy. He is a wonderful listener, and does what he is told. He will not go on furniture until invited, and is housetrained. To be considered as his next human, please submit an application. Fred (#10-011)

This 2 year old boy needed our help right away. He is heartworm positive, which Lab Rescue of Greater Richmond will treat him for, along with an ear infection, kennel cough and ehrlichea. Fred is a kind, loving young boy that weighs around 60lbs. but should weigh more. He travels well in the car, and enjoys a good rub. Having the lab lean down pat, he will stay there until he decides you are done rubbing him. Fred seems fine around cats and other dogs. If you can offer Fred the love and compassion he deserves, complete an application. (Move your mouse over the picture to see more.)
Update: Fred is doing well. He has started his heartworm treatment without any complications. He is still a food vacuum, getting this dog to eat is NOT a problem!! He's such a good dog. Fred likes to be around people all the time if they are near by. He is enjoying his foster brother, especially when it is naptime. He lays ON TOP OF his 90lb brother. He enjoys walks, and does fine in his crate. Check back for updates.
Please consider sponsoring Fred back to health.

Sasha (#10-002)

My name is Sasha, I am 9 years old and looking for a new forever home. Meantime, I'm beginning to settle in with my new foster family. It took me a little while, but I watched my foster brother for a day or so, figured out his favorite, comfy spots, then took them over as mine! I love the dog bed, the dog blanket in the den, and laying in front of the door in the sunshine. I don't think he minds sharing - after all, I am the lady of the house!! I enjoy taking a walk and having my belly rubbed - in fact, I groan to let you know just how much I love it. I would love to be a part of your family - just give me a chance to wrap you around my paw and submit an application!

Tessie (#09-028)

Coming to us at the young age of 10 years, Miss Tessie is smiling on the world. She rides great in the car, and stands at the door waiting for another excursion. This sweetheart walks well on lead, is up to date on shots, spayed, and ready for her new home. Tessie gets along well with other dogs, and her foster sister insists on cleaning her face for her! She doesn't mind a bit. At 65 lbs, she is a smaller lab, but her love is not. She will stay close to you the minute you decide rubbing her is the thing to do. Although she is ten years old, she is fit and healthy. Tessie just wants her forever home to love her, care for her, and give her a comfy bed to lie on. Can you offer this to her? Complete an application and a volunteer will contact you. See Tessie in action. See Tessie in action (.MOV, 6 MB)
